Chubby bubbies

There are few things in the world that are more rewarding than cuddling a chubby bubby - especially if it is your own. They start off so frail and delicate (we named ours Floppy Wot, inspired by the kids tv show 'The Wot Wots') and then they start to put on weight and it is really encouraging to see rolls of fat appear on their thighs and arms. It's a sign they're on a 'good paddock' and all is well within their little world.

baby boyBaby's skin is incredibly soft, untouched by the ravages of hard work, exposure to the sun or harsh chemicals. They are a delight to stroke and squeeze and snuggle up to. And they smell so fresh, too!

They're a bit like puppies. I just love rubbing a puppy's round tummy - the pink skin where they have no fur. It is irresistable, and the best thing is, they love it also. It's a win for all concerned. And the smell of their milky breath as they lick you - aww, how sweet! Of course, once they grow up and discover they can lick bits of their body and roll in roadkill, well, then their breath isn't quite so appealing. I don't mean to be mean; perhaps for other doggies it is a wonderful perfume. Each to his own.

Why do we love the cuteness of chubby bubby fat? 'Cos I'm sure the attractiveness of that fat decreases as the person gets older - we see it as a sign of a sedentary lifestyle and an indicator of oncoming heart disease. I don't get the urge to rub the chubby tummy of an elderly person sitting on a bench down the street. Well, not often. Maybe a jolly-looking grandmother. Perhaps, if she'd let me. But chubby men, I don't know, they're usually hairy and smell of beer.

My apologies to those who are weight-challenged, or age-challenged, or just challenged by life in general. There's enough pressure from the media and our culture to conform to what is acceptable as it is. Psychology talks about loving our inner child - allowing our past hurts and fears to be validated and expressed in a caring manner. If that's heathy, then let's all learn to love and embrace our inner chubbiness.
