Coronary Health Improvement Project

The Coronary Health Improvement Project (CHIP) is an ongoing volunteer-led community-based lifestyle-medicine approach to optimising self-management and prevention of chronic diseases.

The aims of the project are to address the burden of disease associated with atherogenic cardiovascular disease (heart attack and stroke) and type 2 diabetes. The core of the project is an intense 16-session 30-day program of education and support.

A pilot program was conducted in Stanthorpe in February/March 2010 with participants excited about the results! Sustainable weight loss, lowered blood pressure and cholesterol levels were achieved.

Further programs are planned in 2010/2011 for both Stanthorpe and Warwick.

CHIP is conducted on a not-for-profit cost-recovery basis – per participant costs approximate $350. Funding from Queensland Health ($18,300) will significantly subsidise costs to participants.
