What is family day care?

Family Day Care is an approved home-based childcare service providing quality care in the homes of registered educators.  The educators are supported by a coordination and resource team.

Family day care educators can provide care 7 days a week and 24 hours per day.

Family day care provides learning and development experiences for children in a safe, secure home environment for babies and children up to 12 years of age.

Educators use the Early Years Learning Framework to guide children's learning and development.  The scheme is assessed at least every 2 years by an outside assessor using the National Quality Framework developed by the Federal Government to ensure children in all child care servcies in Australia receive high quality care.

Educators and all adults living in the home are required to have a Blue Card.  Educators are required to have a Certificate III in children's Services, a current first aid certificate, asthma and anaphylaxis management training.  Regular training is provided for educators and staff to ensure their practice is in line with current child care practices.

What does this mean for parents?

For parents, family day care offers so much more than a fun safe place to leave your child.  Flexibility, stability, consistency, reassurance and family values are underpinned by meaningful relationships between the educator and the children and the educator and the parents.  These relationships are the key ingredients in building happy and well adjusted children.

Eligible families receive Child Care Benefit and Child Care Cash Rebate to help with the cost of child care.
