Rescuing Reptiles

Rescuing Lizards

  • Only attempt a rescue of a lizard if it is obviously suffering from injury or disease.
  • Ensure you have sturdy, heavy duty gloves.
  • Handle the animal as little as possible as reptile bites can cause bacterial infections.
  • When contained, wrap the animal in something warm and place in a box.
  • Transport to a wildlife carer or vet.

Rescuing Snakes

  • Please bear in mind, members of Granite Belt Wildlife Carers do not relocate snakes
  • A snake will only need rescuing if it is obviously suffering from injury or disease.
  • If this is the case, do not approach the snake, call an experienced snake handler to come and manouvre the animal into some form of containment for closer scrutiny.
