Welcome.
The Border Landcare Organic Group was formed during the winter of 2002.
Every month members meet either at the home of one of the members for activities such as a farm walk, group discussions, interesting speakers, working bees, or we may go on a bus trip to places further afield.
These are generally held on the fourth Saturday of the month, and start at 10am EST. Talk or activity starts at 11am sharp
Bring lunch to share, cup/glass/plates etc and a seat. Don’t forget your hat! If unsure of directions, ring one of the contacts listed below.
 
Upcoming Activities

Organic Vegetable growing

August 28th   [Saturday]

This will be a talk-fest of topics close to the organic gardener’s heart. 

We will hear from Rex Maddocks on vegetable growing and from Philippa Hambleton we will learn about collecting and grafting hardwood cuttings.

Remember to bring a hat, a chair and a plate to share(either morning tea or lunch) as well as a cup, plate & cutlery.

 The ever popular Bring and Buy stall will be held, so if you have any surplus produce, seedlings, jams etc., please bring them along as the proceeds will go to charity.

The venue is to be the Wallangarra School of Arts, Wallangarra in Merinda Street, Wallangarra. Turn east off the highway into Margetts Street At the 2ndcrossroad turn right into Merinda Street. Look for the BLOG signs.

 

Hugh Lovel, Organic Farming & Soil Microbial Activity

Sept 18 & 19 (a Saturday and Sunday)

This two day workshop (plus field day) featuring Hugh Lovel is the result of a successful grant application by BLOG.

The workshop will explain the principles involved in improving soil microbial life through the use of composting.

 Hugh Lovel is an internationally recognised authority on organic farming and associated topics.

We are very fortunate to have him come to Stanthorpe.

Hugh Lovell will be the speaker of renown at this major BLOG function for 2010. The grant money we were successful in securing is to be used to bring to Stanthorpe this internationally  on organic farming and related topics. 

Increasing soil microbial activity will be the focus of this presentation.

Time:        9.00am - 5pm

Where:     Queensland College of Wine Tourism in Stanthorpe

Cost:         $77 per person  [early bird]

                  $99 per person  [after August 27]

                      Includes:  2 day Seminar

                                       1 Field day [22nd or 23rd October 2010]

                                       Morning & afternoon teas & lunches

Farm scale Compost & Compost Tea making.

October 23   ( a saturday)

As a practical follow up to the Hugh Lovel presentation, there will be a field day held at the organic garlic farm of Dick & Dora Rochford at Geyers Road, Tenterfield. (Directions to follow)

Farm-scale compost and compost tea making will be the activities. The aim is to show how farm waste can be converted to valuable soil enhancing products.


Bushfoods  &  Summer break party

November 20 (a Saturday)

Terry and Sue-Ann Gilmour will teach us about bush foods at their property next to Donnelly’s Castle, north of Stanthorpe. (Directions to follow)

This will also be the break up/ Christmas party for BLOG for 2010.

Congratulations to Sue Jurd who had the closest estimate to the number of bean seeds in the Tequila bottle!!!
The prize, 'The Seedsavers' Handbook', was donated by the BLOG Seed Saving Group.

Bushcare

Bushcare is active in the Stanthorpe Area.
The Bushcare group gathers every Monday to do hands on stuff, clearing up selected areas of bush around the town.
A key goal of the group is to enhance the environmental values of these sites.
