History

Granite Belt Support Services Inc was first established in 1990 to provide Therapy Services for children aged 0-18 in an educational setting.  Funding was sourced from Commonwealth Special Education to employ an Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist to provide this service to an Early Intervention group and to all schools in the Granite Belt.

In 1996 GBSS Inc began offering Supported Accommodation Options through funding available from Disability Services Queensland.  The following year Respite was added when we received funding from DSQ for nine families in Stanthorpe and Warwick.  The development of an independant service in Warwick meant GBSS Inc could focus resources in the Granite Belt area.

The next major event in the life of the service was the acquisition of the property at 44 Short Street.  This triggered major growth in the service as GBSS Inc was able to offer in house programs for the first time.  So much so that at present GBSS Inc is applying for funding to building a new larger facility.
